Ty Nelson at Day 2 of Selection Camp

Canada separated it's selection camp into two groups this morning, as Ty Nelson took part in group one's skate. Other OHLers in this group included Owen Allard, Denver Barkey, Oliver Bonk, Jorian Donovan, and Domenic DiVincentiis.

After a short practice with group one in the morning, Ty Nelson said "the pace was really good, it was high tempo, and we got to work on the powerplay which was really nice."

North Bay Battalion defender, and former 1st overall pick in the OHL Draft, Ty Nelson was invited here alongside his current teammate Domenic DiVincentiis.

Dom DiVincentiis was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in 2022.

More on Nelson's relationship with DiVincentiis, and what it means to be invited here together.

Nelson talks about his relationship with North Bay teammate DiVincentiis.

He is also reuniting with his former teammate from the U16 Toronto Jr. Canadiens, Michael Buchinger. "Michael's an amazing guy" says Nelson.

"He's just a funny guy to be around," Nelson said with a smile. "He's great in the locker room, and obviously a great player on the ice."

Buchinger is a St. Louis Blues prospect, and current defender for the Guelph Storm.

"It's great to be reunited with him, and seeing that he's doing fantastic for himself."

Ty Nelson is incredibly offensively-inclined, but he also plays with an edge and takes pride in being difficult to play against.

Nelson shoots the puck more than many other defenders in the OHL, and that shooting mentality has skyrocketed his production.

"Last year and this year [my coaches] really told me to start shooting and use my heavy shot."

Ty Nelson is competing hard to make this team and fulfill a life-long dream of his.

"Anytime you get to represent Canada is an honour."
