Ottawa 67's trade deadline acquisition Jacob Maillet has earned this past week's Player of the Week honours. He had nine points in the last week. They were all assists, and seven of them were primary.
The overage centre has 17 points in 22 games since joining the nation's capital, and his veteran presence has certainly been felt. The 67's were very bleak on centre depth prior to acquiring Maillet and Braeden Kressler at the OHL trade deadline. With these two veterans, the 67's are now a deep team down the middle.
Maillet previously spent time with the Guelph Storm and Windsor Spitfires in his OHL career, but was never drafted to the NHL.
Maillet's two-way game is what makes him so valuable to his teams. He competes hard on both ends of the ice, he's defensively responsible, and he makes the teammates around him better.
The vast amount of assists that he has compared to goals speaks to his team-focused game play.
For Peterborough Petes goaltender Liam Sztuska, he has taken home the honours of OHL Goaltender of the Week.
The Petes have been steadily declining this season as "rebuilders" but Sztuska has been a constant bright spot. He has saved games for them time-and-time again, and continues to prove himself as a starting goaltender in this league.
Sztuska's 45-save performance against the Owen Sound Attack on Sunday is what earned him these honours. He let in one goal, and finished with a .978% save percentage. The Petes won the game 4-1.
The 2004-born goaltender will have one season left with Peterborough in major junior, and next year they will likely finish higher in the standings.
