Mississauga Steelheads winger Porter Martone has had a phenomenal sophomore season thus far, being one of the top goal scorers in the league as a seventeen-year-old.

Martone hit the 30 goal mark on Sunday afternoon with a flashy finish, as the Steelheads lost 8-7 in overtime against the Sudbury Wolves. Martone was parked in front of the net — per usual — when Parker Von Richter kicked a pass into the low slot. Martone was able to deflect the pass through his legs and complete a between-the-legs shot that ended up in the back of the net.

Martone is now up to 30 goals and 59 points in 50 games this season, and he isn't draft eligible until next year.

Last season at the trade deadline, Porter Martone was traded from the Sarnia Sting to Mississauga in a blockbuster deal. There was an adjustment period when he got to Mississauga, as he was still finding his footing in the OHL.

This season, there is no question that Martone has developed into the play level of the league. He has been a consistent contributor for the Steelheads, on a team with little offensive depth.

Martone has a knack for the net. He is great at making plays around the net and getting shots up in-tight. He seems to find himself at the right place at the right time around the net, and his timing for tips and deflections is impeccable.

Not only is he a menace around the net, but he has the ability to drive the puck offensively too. He has a quick, long stride for his size — sitting at 6-foot-3. Martone has high-end puck control and his awareness allows him to find lanes to break into the attacking zone.

He's a multi-faceted winger that will be a coveted pick at the 2025 NHL Draft. If he is putting up 30 goals now, the sky's the limit for him as a draft eligible prospect next season.
