Oliver Peer was dealt to the Flint Firebirds from Windsor at the OHL Trade Deadline, and has five points in two games since joining the team. Peer had three assists in a 5-2 Firebirds win on Friday against Niagara.

Since joining the Flint Firebirds, Oliver Peer has been on a tear. He has five points in his first two games with the team, including a three assist night on Friday in a 5-2 win against the IceDogs.

Oliver Peer was traded to Flint in exchange for draft picks, as the 2003-born overage forward's major junior career is nearing its end. No matter how he performs in Flint, Peer has had a junior career that he can be proud of.

Peer does everything at an advanced pace. He not only skates quick, but he thinks the game quick and is able to beat opponents before they can even react. Peer always seems to be in the right spots on the ice, and finds himself open by continuously moving his feet. He attacks offensively in a variety of ways, and is one of the better play drivers in the OHL right now.

In saying that, Peer may have just found a new gear with the Flint Firebirds.

He has five points in his first two games with the group, where he was clearly able to come and fit right in.

"Right away I noticed how close all the guys were, it's really fun to be apart of something like that," said Peer. "The coaches were all very welcoming and made me feel apart of the team right away."

"It's really exciting to be here, and I'm super happy."

The Firebirds are currently hanging onto the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference, two spots higher than his old team in Windsor. Flint has the opportunity to enter this second half of the season as underdogs, and will hope to really turn it up a notch.

Peer is coming into the last few months of his major junior career, and has the opportunity for one final playoff run with the Firebirds.

"I think we have a team to do it, and we just got to go out there and prove it."

Peer was never drafted into the OHL, and he wasn't drafted into the NHL either. He just continues to defy the odds and prove people wrong with his talent.

He originally made the Spitfires roster in 2021 as a walk-on camp invite. This is exactly what he is hoping to do at the NHL level as well.

Peer was invited as a free agent to the Calgary Flames Development Camp this past offseason, which was a big step into his journey of playing professional hockey.

"It was super cool. Getting the chance to practice with those guys and play with those guys was surreal."

"I was really grateful that I got the opportunity, and I learned a lot out there."
