San Jose Sharks first round pick Quentin Musty scored his first junior career hat trick on Friday night against the London Knights, in a 9-2 victory.
On Friday night, the Sudbury Wolves pulled off a big victory at home against the London Knights, winning by a score of 9-2. Quentin Musty scored his first hat trick in the OHL, adding two helpers for a total of five points in the win.
Musty was selected in the first round by the San Jose Sharks this past June. It is safe to say, that Musty is progressing just as scouts thought he would.
Heading into the NHL Draft in Nashville, the concerns among scouts were in his skating, and his work ethic away from the puck. He often floats around the zone, especially in the defensive zone, and doesn't really engage with the puck until it comes to him.
When he's got the puck on his stick in the offensive zone, good things are always happening. Musty's offensive intelligence and ability to create plays in bunches is what teams love most about his game. He has a knack for finding the slot and gaining open space with the puck.
His shot is a weapon, and he gets it off with tremendous power behind it. He has the ability to find sneaky passing lanes in the offensive zone and set up teammates for grade A chances.
In the offensive zone, Musty is easy to play with. He has had the privilege of playing alongside David Goyette for a lot of his junior career, a phenomenal play maker and driver himself.
Another question with Musty is if he will be able to drive play independently at the next level. He is able to dictate play in the offensive zone, but he doesn't carry the puck from zone-to-zone very often. Goyette has helped him in this area, and Musty really only has to work with the puck in the offensive zone.
Nonetheless, his offensive smarts and ability to create plays is unquestionable. He will be able to generate offence well at the professional level, and produce when playing with the right players.
Musty is a part of an incredibly deep prospect pool in San Jose, and his offensive intelligence and playmaking ability will be a huge asset for them in a couple of years.
