Quentin Musty has taken many strides this season with the Sudbury Wolves since being drafted last June.

Quentin Musty heard his name called 26th overall by the San Jose Sharks last summer at the 2023 NHL Draft. When the Sharks selected him, they knew that Musty would be a bit of a project player and that he would take some time before being able to perform at the NHL level.

There is no doubting Musty's offensive vision, intelligence, and ability to dictate plays in the attacking zone.

But on the other hand, there were concerns about his compete level and lack of physicality/strength given his larger frame. This season, Musty has certainly taken some large steps to round out his game.

First of all, Musty has gained a step in his stride and he has brought his skating up to an average level — where it was below average previously. He has also begun to use his body a little more, and he has started driving play more often.

As much as Musty can do in the offensive zone, he wasn't carrying it into the zone himself very often last season. This year, he's begun driving the puck more often independently, and relying on himself to create plays for himself.

The Sharks have certainly found a player who can create in bunches offensively — and at a professional level. But Musty has also been able to develop this year in a way that makes him a more projectable player.

These steps in progression are vital in his development toward becoming an NHL player. It is important that a player like Musty's progress does not fall flat or stay stagnant, and that he is progressing bit by bit as a junior player.

Musty has certainly made some heads turn this season, as he just hit the 100 point mark on the season. He currently ranks third among all OHL players in scoring, including 43 goals — only 13 of which have come on the power play.

Musty is a third of Sudbury's three-headed monster which also includes David Goyette and Dalibor Dvorsky. Whichever team has to face Sudbury in the first round of the playoffs has a tough task ahead, and will have trouble keeping these three contained.
