Short Interview with Carson Rehkopf after the first practice at Canada's World Junior Selection Camp, in Oakville, Ontario.
The first day of Canada's World Junior Selection Camp was a short one, but it was a good opportunity to get everyone back on the ice in the red and white.
Post-practice, Carson Rehkopf said that it was "good to get the nerves out and get a quick skate in," after just over 45 minutes of ice time.
Rehkopf is one of eleven OHL players invited to Canada's Selection Camp, and this will be his first crack at representing Canada at the World Juniors.
"It's exciting to have the opportunity to represent the country."
He currently leads the Ontario Hockey League in scoring, with 31 goals and 55 points in just 31 games. Rehkopf leads a goal-per-game pace, as the strong sharpshooter has lead the Kitchener Rangers to a successful first half of the season.
The Rangers currently sit first in the league's standings, largely due to the production and leadership from Rehkopf.
"The coaching staff has given me the opportunity to lead the team, and play heavy minutes, and really take control of every game" said Rehkopf.
The Seattle Kraken second-round pick has certainly impressed so far this season in Kitchener, and now he has the opportunity to represent Canada on junior hockey's biggest stage.
Rehkopf will look to make this team out of a wealthy amount of skilled centremen at Canada's Selection Camp. He will look to play to his strengths, using his lethal shot release and ability to score from almost anywhere in the attacking zone.
If Rehkopf makes this team, there is no doubt that he will live up to standards, as he thrives under pressure. If he can lead his team in Kitchener when it matters most, he can be a big piece for Canada at this tournament.
