Despite tendering with Green Bay in the USHL just under a month ago, Colin Fitzgerald has officially signed with the Peterborough Petes who took him third overall in the 204 OHL Priority Selection.
Colin Fitzgerald has been a question mark for the last month or so, and he was one of the biggest wildcards heading into the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. Despite Fitzgerald tendering in the USHL with Green Bay, he has officially signed with the Peterborough Petes — who can breathe a sigh of relief.
The Peterborough Petes selected Colin Fitzgerald with their third overall lottery pick in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection, even though he had tendered with Green Bay previously. Fitzgerald did not attend the Petes Development Camp, and a lot of signs were pointing toward him heading to Green Bay.
Despite all of this, the Peterborough, Ontario-born centre has signed his OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with his hometown Petes.
Fitzgerald is a prospect that was solid all season, but really boosted his value at the OHL Cup with the Peterborough Jr. Petes. He was arguably the best player in the tournament, and he showcased his entire package as a player to all of the scouts in attendance.
The 6-foot-2 centre is a rare natural centre in this draft class who has a complete array of tools offensively. He has eyes in the back of his head and complete awareness of the offensive zone, he's a high-end playmaker, and he can shoot the puck at a high level.
Fitzgerald is a player that can drive a line at the OHL level and play with any type of linemates. He oozes confidence when he has the puck on his stick, and his constant deceptiveness and shiftiness makes him a threat at all times.
Fitzgerald will walk into the Petes lineup as a centre, and it is expected that he will transition to a role down the middle quite smoothly. Peterborough has players like Caden Taylor, Nico Addy, and Aiden Young who are all lacking a player to drive their offence. Colin Fitzgerald is their solution.
The Petes are shaping up to be a very dangerous team heading into next season. They have four first round draft picks from the 2023 OHL Draft; Nico Addy, Caden Taylor, Aiden Young, & Carson Cameron. They have officially added Colin Fitzgerald, and they have a lot of ammo to utilize in the OHL trade market.
