With most teams left with around 10 games left in the season, the playoff race has entered into a sprint.
Five teams were able to secure their spot last week, including the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, the Sherbrooke Phoenix, the Cape Breton Eagles, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and the Charlottetown Islanders. This week, the Val-d'Or Foreurs and the Quebec Remparts will look to make that jump as well.
At the bottom of the standings, the 17th place Saint John Sea Dogs have continued their fall from a .500 team to the bottom ranks with an 11 game losing streak. Meanwhile, despite some strong performances from 2025 NHL draft eligible Gabriel D'Aigle, the Victoriaville Tigres remain three games behind the 16th place Gatineau Olympiques -- despite having played two more games than the Olmpiques.
Without further ado, here's the state of the QMJHL.
1. Moncton Wildcats 43-9-2
With a five game win streak, the Wildcats are far and ahead the most dominant team in the QMJHL -- boasting twice as many goals for than goals against. The biggest reason for their great play lately has been the choice to begin prioritize playing Detroit Red Wings prospect goaltender Rudy Guimond more over trade deadline acquisition, former Team Canada World Junior starter Mathis Rousseau. Guimond has been stellar, with an 11-0-0 record since making the jump to the QMJHL, with a .944 save percentage. With the disappointing play of Rousseau since his acquisition (.888 over with a 6-4 record), the Wildcats called the audible and have come out better for it.
2. Rimouski Océanic 39-12-4
3. Chicoutimi Saguenéens 31-13-10
4. Drummondville Voltigeurs 34-15-6
5. Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 31-17-5
6. Shawinigan Cataractes 31-18-5
7. Baie-Comeau Drakkar 31-20-4
8. Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 29-17-8
9. Cape Breton Eagles 28-19-7
10. Sherbrooke Phoenix 29-19-6
The Armada have been the biggest surprise since the trade deadline of this group with remaining a Top 5 team due to a 10 game point streak. Their continued success is all the more impressive given the teams 'soft selling' approach at the deadline -- which included trading franchise point leader and captain Jonathan Fauchon to the Océanic and replacing him with fellow overager Egor Goriunov from the Islanders for cheap.
11. Acadie-Bathurst Titan 28-24-2
12. Charlottetown Islanders 27-24-3
With the loss of star forward Ross Campbell from the lineup, the defense-heavy Islanders lose one of their few offensive weapons. As such, it's hard to imagine their pace to continue for the remainder of the season and playoffs. As for the Titan, the team has secured their final playoff berth before the move to Newfoundland. They'll be motivated to give the fan's one last 'hurrah' and with the way star goaltender Josh Fleming has played this year so far, they could steal a series, or two.
13. Val-d'Or Foreurs 22-25-6
14. Quebec Remparts 20-9-6
15. Halifax Mooseheads 17-30-8
16. Gatineau Olympiques 14-27-12
Ensuring a spot in the playoffs is sometimes just about getting hot at the right time and the Olympiques seem to have put themselves in that spot with the standout play from Iain Wintle lately (69 saves on 73 shots over last three games). Looking to uphold a playoff streak of 40 years, the Olympiques are fighting hard on the border.
17. Saint John Sea Dogs 19-36-0
18. Victoriaville Tigres 15-35-4
The Sea Dogs are the newest team to set up shoppe in the basement, thanks to their 11 game losing streak. Ever since trading Washington Capitals forward Eriks Mateiko -- the team has been a shell of itself. That fall from grace certainly wasn't helped by the shock departure of star goaltender Charles-Edward Gravel to the BCHL and the recent injury to now-starter Justin Robinson. The team is left with just 19-year-old QMJHL rookie Eric Young (.862 over seven games). Given their play since the New Year, it's hard to imagine the team making the playoffs -- a doubt worsened given that the team has played two additional games over the 16th place Olympiques.
