Week 23 QMJHL power rankingsJust three weeks of play remain in the 2024-25 QMJHL regular season.
Last week, the Val-d'Or Foreurs were the sole team to guarantee a spot in the finals, with the Quebec Remparts likely to achieve the goal this week. Meanwhile, the final two spots will likely be determined in the two following weeks. As it stands, three teams are realistically in the race, the Halifax Mooseheads, the Gatineau Olympiques and the Saint John Sea Dogs. The last place Victoriaville Tigres would need a hurculean effort and a good bit of luck to secure the final spot at this point, being eight points out of 16th, with just seven games left.
More likely than not, the Tigres could very well see their playoff dreams crushed as soon as this week.
That said, this is how the whole league is shaping up going into the third last week of play.
1. Moncton Wildcats 45-9-2
2. Rimouski Océanic 41-12-4
Sitting six points ahead of the closest team to them, the Océanic -- who, themselves, are eight points ahead of behind them -- the Moncton Wildcats are definitively the best team in the QMJHL, and could seriously challenge for the best in junior hockey right now. Despite all of the unorthodox moves, including trading the team captain and star goaltender -- the Cats just keep winning.
Rimouski joins them this week in the favourites tier, thanks to an eight game point streak. Their spot here is less of a testament to them being on the same level as Moncton, but more so that they are likely the only team who could give Moncton a real challenge.
3. Drummondville Voltigeurs 36-16-6
4. Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 32-17-7
5. Chicoutimi Saguenéens 33-15-10
6. Shawinigan Cataractes 32-18-7
7. Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 30-18-8
8. Cape Breton Eagles 30-19-7
9. Sherbrooke Phoenix 31-20-6
10. Baie-Comeau Drakkar 31-22-4
With points in their last 13 games, the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada are the fastest rising team in the league. As such, the Armada enter the Top 4 for the first time this season. With the emergence of Vincent Gladu this season and the acquisition of Felix Hamel, the team has found a winning formula by combining one of the league's strongest tandems with a CHL-best 33 per cent powerplay conversion rate. With the rest of the 'Contenders' tier stuck around .500 hockey over the last 10 games, the Armada may successfully pull off a ;Favourites' tier at the season's finish line.
11. Acadie-Bathurst Titan 30-25-2
12. Val-d'Or Foreurs 25-25-6
13. Charlottetown Islanders 27-26-3
Boasting five wins across their last six games, the Val-d'Or Foreurs burst into the third tier last week. 2025 NHL draft eligibles Philippe Veilleux and Nathan Brisson have been on another level since the New Year with 41 and 37 points, respectively. Additionally, the team's goaltending duo of Emile Beaunoyer and Cedric Masse have finally caught a groove and have strung together a good few strong performances lately. Even though the team has its flaws and inconsistencies, it could be the kind of team to steal a series or two if the stars line up.
14. Quebec Remparts 22-29-6
15. Gatineau Olympiques 14-28-14
16. Halifax Mooseheads 17-31-9
The Olympiques end up tying their season-best placement at 15th as the Halifax Mooseheads continue their slide down the standings. With points in their last three games, and sitting three games ahead of the 17th place Sea Dogs -- the Olympiques just need to hold on to continue a playoff streak which has lasted 39 years to this point.
17. Saint John Sea Dogs 20-38-0
18. Victoriaville Tigres 15-38-4
The only thing preventing an 18th place finish from the Sea Dogs at this point is the Tigres starting on weaker ground. However, the Sea Dogs don't seem too eager to hold their ground -- with just one win over their last 14 games.
