A fairly aggressive offseason should see the Mooseheads pushing the top of the Eastern conference.
The Halifax Mooseheads took 2025-26 more as a building year, and in turn did not see much success in terms of the standings.
They finished seventh in the Eastern conference, and proceeded to get mauled in the first round by the eventual champion Chicoutimi Saguenéens.
But, the 2026 offseason has brought forward a will to push up the standings in the new campaign, with new additions via trade as well as a pair of new imports and a handful of American signings.
The Mooseheads seem poised to have a solid season thanks to their new additions. (Photo: Trevor MacMillan)Firstly, the major trade addition was Mateo Nobert from Blainville-Boisbriand, who should become an immediate top-line presence on this team.
The import signings are a pair of Austrian talents in Paul Sintschnig and Nico Uschan, while Americans in Jackson Smail, Jack Fichthorn, Brady Smith and Evan Nee bolster the squad as well.
There are also a few notable outgoings, including Liam Kilfoil, Nick Cirka and Caylen Blake out through trades, Carlos Handel leaving to turn pro in Germany and Jasu Mensonen heading back to Finland.
But, the additions are well-positioned to replace those departing, and when you take into consideration the potential leaps for players such as Malik L'Italien, Cameron Minella and Daniel Walters, it's fair to say there's room for optimism out in Nova Scotia.
There's also a good amount of returning talent, including top scorers Oleg Kulebiakin and Shawn Carrier fresh off being drafted into the NHL and poised to really lead this offence alongside Nobert.
It'll be a tough time with the number of good teams out in the Maritimes this year, but Halifax will be determined to be one of them.
