The QMJHL's newest team will look for individual improvement in 2026-27 after a pretty quiet summer.
The Newfoundland Regiment had a formidable debut season, with an energetic and attractive style of play that got them to the second round of the playoffs.
The summer following that has been pretty quiet from Gordie Dwyer and co., as they appear to be turning to more internal growth to have another strong season.
Players such as Justin Larose, Emile Perron, Blake Pilgrim-Edwards, Noah Laberge, Dawson Sharkey and Marek Danicek are on the outs for the college route or turning pro, which will leave some significant holes in this roster.
The Regiment will look to some local youth to step up in the absence of departing players. (Photo: Jeff Parsons)But, there are some very solid young pieces on this roster, namely a pair of homegrown Newfoundlanders coming off of Hlinka-Gretzky gold in Ben Veitch and Quinn Norman
Veitch, in particular, had a wonderful tournament off the back of looking like a breakout star in the playoffs, and could be poised for a major season in a big role.
Other youngsters in Liam Arsenault and Benjamin Girard will be given bigger roles as well, and will need to step up if this team is to win another playoff round in 2026-27.
In the import world, forward Dmitry Kubantsev and blueliner William Lundqvist are in as well to help replace some of the big departures, and should add some upside to the roster.
There are also some more experienced players such as Tyson Goguen and Alexis Mathieu who will provide more stability up front.
But, in all, it'll be up to the youngsters who carry the ceiling of the Regiment as they enter their second season.
