Yesterday, the Charlottetown Islanders announced a new hire to the front office staff.
Seven-year old superfan Maverick Bishop has been hired in the role of 'honorary coach' for the 2024-25 season.
Bishop will be looked upon to rally and inspire the team at practices and before games.
"His energy and enthusiasm is contagious," said Jim Hulton, the head coach of the Charlottetown Islanders. "We are a better team with Maverick on board!"

This is Bishop's second time with the organization, after signing a one-day contract on March 16th, 2024 ahead of the Islanders game against the Saint John Sea Dogs. That night, the Isles rallied together behind Bishop to resoundingly beat Saint John 6-2.
Even though, Bishop's presence is a guiding light for players and staff alike, his character and courage should serve as an inspiration when he's watching the team from afar.
Maverick was born with congenital heart disease. At just seven, he's already been through six open heart surgeries.
His condition hasn't held him back from hanging out with his friends, nor his passions of flying and cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Charlottetown Islanders.
"The team is very excited to welcome 7-year old Maverick Bishop as an honorary coach," Hilton said. "His grit, determination & courage in the face of adversity inspires us all."
Maverick's most recent surgery was in July. That same month, he found out he was a candidate for a heart transplant.
Bishop will be in-house for the opening weekend, but move to Toronto at the end of the month as he awaits a new heart. In the meantime, Bishop has said he'll watch every game online.
He and his family encourages everyone to check out the Canadian Transplant Association Website for more information on how how to help.
The Isles will officially welcome Bishop to the organization for the season opener on September 20th, as they face off at home against the Halifax Mooseheads at home.
