The CHL has announced a new event in November that will see the inclusion of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. The event will be called the CHL-USA Prospects Challenge.
Rather than splitting the leagues into two arbitrary teams like the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, each league will represent a team and will play in a two-game series.
It is unclear whether this tournament will replace the existing CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, or whether it will co-exist with the existing format which is usually held in January.
The CHL's teams will be assembled by NHL Central Scouting based on the recommendations of NHL teams.
“This Prospects Challenge will give NHL Clubs and CHL fans the unique opportunity to see the best Canadian and American NHL draft-eligible prospects compete in a two-game series, and it will provide the only time during the hockey season that some of the top-ranked prospects in the 2025 NHL Draft class will compete in a best-on-best patriotic rivalry,” said Dan Marr, Director of NHL Central Scouting in a CHL.ca press release.
The two organizations have agreed to a three-year partnership, that will see each league within the CHL host the event once. Although, the official format, date and location has yet to have been announced.
Kubota, the sponsor of the CHL Prospect Tournament, will remain sponsor of the event, despite the new format.
