An unstoppable force versus an immovable object.
That's what it felt like before the two remaining undefeated teams to the ice on Saturday night for the Gold.
Team Czechia was fronted by Adam Benak, the tournament's all-time point leader as of a few nights before. He's had a repeat performance of last year, easily taking the reigns as Czechia's best and most prolific player.
Meanwhile Team Canada's goaltender Jack Ivankovic was having the tournament of his life, backstopping Canada and making every chance look easy.
As it would turn out, objects at rest tend to stay at rest as Ivankovic remained a brick wall in Canada's 4-1 win of Czechia in the finals.
Alongside Ivankovic, were five representatives from the QMJHL who helped Canada secured Gold.

Emile Guite has made his mark at this year's Hlinka Gretzky Cup. He had already started to float around the minds of scouts, but after starting his draft eligible season by leading Team Canada in points on their way to gold, there's no doubt he won't be firmly in the mix for the first round.

Statistically, Desnoyers' lived up to expectations, notching a point-a-game at the tournament. Although, it was outside the scoresheet where Desnoyers truly impressed. He was noticeably a hard worker, battling for pucks -- a trait you'd want in a player that's wearing a letter like him. He was also trusted on both of Canada's special teams units, indicating that the coaching staff trusts his game in all zones and his stamina. He already was looking like a potential first rounder coming into the tournament, but this performance just reinforces that sentiment.
The Hockey News' draft analyst Tony Ferrari gave him a shout, saying:
"Caleb Desnoyers is one of the top draft eligibles in the 'Q' this season and he will help head up a resurgent year for the league when it comes to the NHL draft. He was consistently one of Canada’s best players at driving play and creating offensive chances at this tournament, putting up a point in every game for Canada. Desnoyers scored the gold medal-winning goal against Czechia to put a cap on a solid tournament all around for the Moncton Wildcats' forward." - Tony Ferrari, 2024

Huang had an excellent tournament on both sides of the ice for Canada. Offensively, he got on the board twice and added two helpers. Meanwhile in his own zone, he was a play killer and was a big reason why Canada didn't face as many shots throughout the tournament as some other teams.
Tony Ferrari thought he was notable as well, saying:
"The other half of Canada’s top pair alongside Schaefer, Alex Huang was understatedly good throughout the Hlinka. He and Schaefer did an excellent job of reading off of each other and shining in their own moments. Huang isn’t a big defender but he played a stout defensive game, killing rush attacks and using his stick to disrupt play. His breakout passing was on point and he even scored a beautiful goal coming out of the penalty box in the semifinal. Huang is a name to watch out for in the QMJHL this season." - Tony Ferrari, 2024

To be completely honest, Liam Kilfoil felt like an odd admission at first. His 20 point campaign with the Mooseheads last season wasn't exactly notable, to say the least. That said, he quickly made himself at home at the tournament notching three points and giving it his all throughout the tournament. With such a performance at the tournament, it wouldn't be unreasonable to imagine he could be one of the candidates for the QMJHL's most improved statistical player by season's end.

Stats: .964 save percentage in 1 game
Lucas Beckman might have been a surprise add to the team, to some. For fans of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, they've known all along just how good Lucas Beckman is. After getting the call-up in January, Beckman posted a ridiculous .939 save percentage over nine games in the final stretch, Canada took notice and gave him a shot, letting him play in a game against Slovakia where he backstopped Canada to a 5-1 win off of a 27 save performance. Sure, it was only one game, but it's re-assuring to know that he hasn't lost his mojo from last season and he should be one of the top goalies to watch in the 2025 Draft.
Gatineau's import selection Stepan Cerny had a big tournament, notching two assists over four games with Czechia. That said, the blueliner has signed a deal with HK Mountfield of the Czech Extraliga and will not report to Gatineau's camp. Despite the report, he is still listed on the Olympiques pre-season roster.
