The St. Louis Blues made a splash in the past few weeks by signing both Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, who were both restricted free agents with the Oilers at the time. But when it comes to their own RFAs, they still have to sign former QMJHL forward Nikita Alexandrov, who they selected with the 62nd pick in the 2019 NHL draft.
Alexandrov was selected 50th overall by the Charlottetown Islanders in the 2017 CHL import draft. He spent all three QMJHL seasons with the team. Overall, he put up 63 goals and 146 points in 172 regular season games, including a team-leading 23 goals and 54 points in 42 games in his final QMJHL season. He also added 11 goals and 24 points in 24 postseason games.
Although Alexandrov is born in Germany, he represented Russia internationally in the 2020 World Junior Championships, where he put up two goals and eight points in seven games.
Following a loan to Finland and some time with the Utica Comets in the AHL after his QMJHL days, Alexandrov finally joined the Blues' own AHL affiliate club in Massachusetts. Since his time with the Springfield Thunderbirds, Alexandrov scored 34 goals and 75 points in 115 regular season games, as well as two goals and 10 points in 20 postseason games.
Across the past two seasons, Alexandrov also accumulated some NHL experience. Throughout 51 games, he scored three goals and nine points. While he'll likely start the season with the Thunderbirds, it's very possible he'll get some more time in the NHL at some point this season.
