After just two games, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies have announced that they have parted ways with overage left winger Leighton Carruthers.

Carruthers, 20, had two assists over two games with the Huskies -- before the team prioritized defensemen Ty Higgins and Alex Carr, as well as the 2023-24 QMJHL point leader Antonin Verreault.

With both parties cutting ties, Carruthers has since gone on to sign with the SJHL's Flin Flon Bombers

Carruthers was the third overall pick in the 2020 QMJHL Draft by the Saint John Sea Dogs. He would play 30 games with the team before getting dealt to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, where he would play parts of four seasons, in exchange for a first round pick, two second round picks and a third.

The pick would become defenseman Natan Grenier, who himself would get dealt from the Sea Dogs in a massive 10-piece trade to the Moncton Wildcats that included current Ottawa Senators prospect Philippe Daoust.

Despite playing over 180 games in the Huskies, it's clear Carruthers never really got going as was hoped -- scoring a career high of 18-points in his debut season with the team.

All-in-all, Carruthers played a total of 220 games in the QMJHL, scoring 47 points (28+19).

He's the second QMJHL draft pick on the roster, with the other being 2023 Cape Breton Eagles ninth rounder Natan Meunier-Roberge.
