After going undrafted for the second year in a row, Charlottetown Islanders defenseman and captain Marcus Kearsey has chosen to forego his overage season, leaving early to play for Northeastern University of the NCAA in 2026-27.

Kearsey, 19, had 28 points (7+21) through 46 games with the Islanders lost season. The Newfoundland native has played all three seasons in the QMJHL with the Isles, notching 106 points (20+86) through 182 games.

Given the Islanders are looking closer to rebuilders than contenders next season, Kearsey should likely become a hot trade chip midway around the 2025/26 deadline as he'll look to end his final QMJHL season with a bang.
