Steen, 20, recently left the Islanders after potting just one point (0+1) over six games to start his 2024-25 season and QMJHL career, after three seasons in the OHL with the Owen Sound, where he amassed 30 points (6+24) over 151 games.
Steen had supposedly left the team on good terms, with the Islanders posting a photo of him surrounded by his now former teammates seemingly enjoying a final meal together.
This move is a bit of a head scratcher for the Wildcats as they are already at the overager limit with goaltender Jacob Steinman (.930 over 10) and forwards Markus Vidicek (10 in 11) and captain Yoan Loshing (15 in 10).
It'd be hard to imagine any of those three guys getting cut by the Wildcats as all three are off to strong starts to their seasons.
It's possible that one of the three may be injured, which would explain why Moncton would feel the need to add another overager.
