Most of the NHL's 32 team rosters this season contain at least one alumnus from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
MONTREAL, QC -- With the opening of the 2023-24 hockey season, NHL franchises have released their official rosters to start the year. Included on those rosters are 79 former QMJHL players who have now found a home in the National Hockey League, like Jonathan Huberdeau (Saint John Sea Dogs), Nathan MacKinnon (Halifax Mooseheads), Phillip Danault (Victoriaville Tigres), and Alexis Lafreniere (Rimouski Oceanic).
Of the 32 NHL clubs, five of them top out with five former QMJHL players on their roster: the Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Vegas Golden Knights.
Four teams contain zero former QMJHL players: the Buffalo Sabres, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Included in the list of 79 alums are a number of players currently on injured or non-active reserve: Jakub Voracek (Halifax Mooseheads), Jakob Pelletier (Moncton Wildcats), Vasily Ponomarev (Shawinigan Cataractes), Philipp Kurashev (Quebec Remparts), Samuel Savoie (Gatineau Olympiques), Alex Beaucage (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies), Jordan Dumais (Halifax Mooseheads), Mathieu Olivier (Shawinigan Cataractes), Raivis Ansons (Baie-Comeau Drakkar), and Daniil Miromanov (Acadie-Bathurst Titan).
Players listed above are noted with the QMJHL team they played the most games with during their junior hockey career.
