The Saint John Sea Dogs have announced that they have signed their eighth round pick of the 2024 QMJHL draft, 17-year old left winger Zachary Morin to a contract.

Morin was drafted as a re-entry candidate, after not signing with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada who took him in the first round in 2023 at 19th overall.

Morin has been widely considered one of the top players from the 2025 NHL draft class for the better part of the 2020's, having played Under-18 AAA in Quebec at just 14 -- where he potted 20 points (10+10) over 37 games.

He would then go on to play for Little Caesar's U-15 AAA program in the United States, scoring 130 points (58+72) over 77 games.

Despite his impressive play, he was drafted at only 19th overall as he was already committed to Boston University for both hockey and lacrosse.

Given the commitment, he opted to play in the USHL with the Youngstown Phantoms. There, he scored 19 points (8+11) over 54 games. Decent stats, but far from was advertised.

Now a draft eligible, Morin has to put his best foot forward to show NHL clubs what he's capable of.

With Youngstown unwilling to give him big minutes, and potential changes looming to NCAA eligibility that would allow CHL players to remain eligible for play, Morin decided it was his best interest to join the Sea Dogs.

As of right now, his commitment to BU is unclear as he's since deleted his social media posts about his commitment to the program.

However, all signs are pointing to Morin's QMJHL debut this weekend, perhaps as soon as tonight's game against the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
