The Moncton Wildcats announced today that they have traded the rights to overage centerman Thomas Auger to the Quebec Remparts for a 2025 7th round pick.
Auger, 20, has been playing with the MJAHL's Amherst Ramblers this season scoring 15 points (4+11) over his first eight games.
Auger played in the QMJHL with the Wildcats between 2021-2024, scoring 98 points (39+59) over 144 games.
He played pre-season games with the Wildcats this season but was cut in favour of keeping starting goaltender Jacob Steinman, captain and leading scorer Yoan Loshing and the newly acquired 45-goal scorer Markus Vidicek.
As of right now, this move puts the Remparts above the overager limit, should he stay with the main team.
This would mean that, barring an injury, the team would have to trade or cut a player.
The options include the team's captain Justin Cote whose 23 points leads the entire league, defenseman Benjamin Vigneault who is scoring over a point per game with 15 points over 13 games or alternate captain Antoine Michaud who has two points across 13 games this season.
One should expect news of some sort on that front by tomorrow.
