The Quebec Remparts are taking a step to bolster their defensive group, announcing the signing of Ontario-born defenseman Cal Uens on Friday.
A third-round pick in the 2021 OHL draft, Uens spent the last four seasons in the OHL with the Owen Sound Attack and Kingston Frontenacs, scoring 70 points with a plus-11 rating across 266 games.
The 5-foot-8 defenseman was an assistant captain with the Frontenacs last season, putting up a 23-point campaign with a plus-21 rating. Uens also recorded eight points in 11 games in Kingston's playoff run.
Quebec will hope the signing of the veteran overage defender can help improve the back end of the team that allowed the second-most goals in the Eastern conference last season. Uens should slide in nicely on the right side of the Remparts' defensive unit.
