While we may not know who will be taken first overall at the 2025 QMJHL draft until June 6th, we now know what team will.

The Saint John Sea Dogs, who finished 17th in the league, move up one spot to secure first overall during today's draft lottery. The team had six balls in play, marking 28.6 per cent odds at drafting first. The Sea Dogs dethrone the last place Victoriaville Tigres, who had the highest odds with 42.9%.

The Sea Dogs selected thrice in the first round of the 2024 draft, including forward William Yared (5th), forward Dylan Rozzi (8th) and defenseman Cameron Chartrand (19th). The Sea Dogs last took first overall in 2019, where they selected now Montreal Canadiens prospect Joshua Roy.

At first overall, the team has a few intruiging options including forwards Alexis Joseph, James Scantlebury, Zack Arsenault and defenseman Malik L'Italien.
