The Shawinigan Cataractes have added overage defenseman Antoine Michaud from the Quebec Remparts in exchange for an 11th round pick in 2027.
Michaud, 20, has two points (1+1) over 13 games to start his 2024-25 season. So far in his QMJHL career he has played in 144 games over the course of parts of four seasons with the Gatineau Olympiques and the Remparts, scoring 29 points (9+20).
Last season was his best, scoring 20 points (6+14) across 58 games.
This move brings Shawinigan to above the four player overager limit.
Michaud joins recently acquired goaltender Liam Sztuska, left winger Louis-Philippe Fontaine and defenseman Isaac Menard.
With Sztuska hoisting a .911 save percentage since joining the team and Fontaine's 19 points (5+14) is good for second best on the team, assistant captain Isaac Menard's one point (1+0) over six games sticks out.
A two time 40+ point scorer and a QMJHL champion in 2022, Menard's totals dropped off last season with just 25 points over 56 games. His track record shows he's clearly good enough for the QMJHL, however his recent track record should be of concern.
