The Shawinigan Cataractes announced a couple of days ago that they have signed overage goaltender Liam Sztuska off waivers.

Sztuska, 20, is coming off of parts of four seasons in the OHL with the Peterborough Petes.

There he played in 70 regular season games while hoisting an impressive .902 save percentage in spite of a losing record and a 3.81 goals against average.

His best season statistically was last year, playing in a CHL career best 44 games while netting a .905 save percentage. Although his greatest season accomplishment wise was in 2022-23, where he backed up the team to an OHL Championship and Memorial Cup berth.

After an 0-3 start to the season, the veteran was waived by the Petes in favour of new blood in net -- despite a solid .895 save percentage.

If Sztuska plays like he did in the OHL in the QMJHL, the Cataractes should not have a single worry about their goaltending moving forward.

So far, he's already gotten into a game with the team -- posting a .920 last night in a losing effort to the highly ranked Drummondville Voltigeurs.

The team decided to pull the trigger on getting Sztuska as their starting goaltender Mathys Fernandez recovers from injury.
