In May 1990, The Hockey News writer Bob McKenzie was looking past the 1990 NHL Entry Draft — with talent available like Jaromir Jagr, Owen Nolan, Keith Primeau and Petr Nedved — towards 17-year-old Eric Lindros, eligible for the 1991 NHL Draft.
McKenzie wrote that if Lindros was eligible for 1990, he would likely be placed at the top of the rankings. One NHL scout said, "He shows every sign of putting himself in a class that’s a cut above the best guys this year. He certainly has the potential to do it. A year from now, he’ll be that much stronger and wiser.”
Other players in the mix for the 1991 Draft were two WHL'ers, Pat Falloon of the Spokane Chiefs and Brent Bilodeau of the Seattle Thunderbirds.
As we know, Lindros was selected first overall by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft from the Oshawa Generals (OHL). Read about the rest of the draft class from this article dated May 15, 1990.
