It appears the ship has sailed on Vecvanags with the Titan.
Last night, Gregory Balloch of Sportsnet and EPRinkside broke the news that Mikus Vecvanags, the first round import selection by the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, has signed with the Brooks Bandits of the BCHL for the 2024-25 season.
The head coach and general manager of the Titan, Gordie Dwyer, is already an established and decorated coach who was part of the coaching staff for Team Canada, winning gold at the Hlinka Gretzky.
Though, the he hasn't had the same successes as a general manager thus far as this is now the third player since he took over the role as general manager of the Titan that has not reported to the team, with Pekarcik (2023, #2) and Sykora (2024, #76) being the other two.
After signing in the USHL in protest, the Titan traded Pekarcik's rights to the Wildcats for a 2026 3rd. The Wildcats signed him without hassle.
Capitals prospect Petr Sikora, the Titan's other import selection this year, has signed an extension in Czechia with Ocelari Trinec rather than come over.
The hope was that Vecvanags would fill the void of Capitals prospect Antoine Keller who left for Switzerland after a season.
Instead, Samuel Quimper will take the reigns as the bonafide starter of the team, with one of Antoine Proulx, Luca Campo or George Gallant taking the backup role
