Last night, there were reports out of Czechia that 2018 first rounder and former Halifax Mooseheads' star Filip Zadina signing a try-out deal in Buffalo.

As it would turn out, that wasn't the case.

Although according to Sabres beat reporter Lance Lysowski, Zadina's agent Darrin Farris alluded that he was working on getting the struggling left winger a try-out elsewhere.

The Habs would be a hilarious landing spot for Zadina, who had previously made a comment about filling the teams' that passed on him in the 2018 draft's net with pucks. The Habs' selected a few spots above the Red Wings and took Jesperi Kotkaniemi with the third overall pick which was at the time considered a reach.

Kotkaniemi has had 161 points (64+97) over 398 NHL games, meanwhile Zadina has 91 points (41+50) over 262 games.

Neither player are with their original teams, albeit the Habs got a healthy draft package thanks to the Hurricanes offer sheeting Kotkaniemi. Meanwhile, the Red Wings got nothing for Zadina as the two had agreed to a mutual contract termination after the 2022-23 season.

Barta's report is in line with Kevin Weekes' report that three teams are in the Zadina 'sweepstakes'.

Regardless of where Zadina lands, one would have to hope the best for the player who was once considered so highly but has struggled to carry his play from juniors into the NHL
