Former Washington Capitals defensive prospect Martin Has has signed a try-out deal with HC Plzen in Czechia.

Has, 23, is a former fifth round pick in the 2019 draft by the Washington Capitals after a 16-point (9+7), 37-game campaign for Tappara Jr. of the Finnish Under-20 league in 2018-19.

He split the following season between the OHL and the Finnish ranks, before returning home to Czechia in 2020-21 and then finally landing in the QMJHL for the 2021-22 season with the Shawinigan Cataractes.

There, Has tallied 20 points (8+12) across 57 games. While the Capitals didn't sign him to an NHL deal, their ECHL affiliate -- the South Carolina Stingrays -- did.

Has was a regular fixture in the Stingrays lineup notching 12 points (3+9) over 50 games, but would leave the team the following season for the Fort Wayne Komets.

With Fort Wayne, Has would only register 5 points (1+4) across 62 games while a -14.

Perhaps a return to Europe is just what Has needs as it would appear that he never became comfortable with the North American game.
