Since Jim Hulton became the head coach in 2015, the Charlottetown Islanders have never missed the playoffs. Opposing teams have come to expect to face a hard-working, committed team that should not be underestimated. A Hulton-coached team is rarely outworked.
The QMJHL recognized Hulton as Coach of the Year -- the Ron Lapointe Trophy -- for two consecutive years from 2020-22. He was also presented the Brian Kilrea Award, as the CHL's coach of the year, in 2021-22.
Hulton has also held the title of General Manager for the Islanders since 2016. He was named the winner of the Maurice Filion Trophy for the QMJHL's general manager of the year in 2020-21.
With a record of 182-98-22-6, the Charlottetown Islanders have the second best point percentage (.636) in the QMJHL in the past five years.
After some very successful years, the Islanders are in the middle of a rebuild. Coach Hulton has added several talented players including 16-year-old Anthony Flanagan; 17-year-olds Marcus Kearsey, Matthew Butler, Alexis Michaud, Ondrej Maruna and Ross Campbell; and 18-year-olds Lucas Romeo and Aksels Ozols.
While this franchise will not contend for a championship this season, with Hulton at the helm, the Charlottetown Islanders have their sights set on being near the top of the QMJHL standings in the near future.
