The Vancouver Canucks have announced the signing of left winger Sammy Blais to a professional try out contract.

Blais, 28, is coming off a 7-point (1+6), 53-game season with the St. Louis Blues. This was a step down from his bombastic re-arrival to St. Louis, where he scored 20 points (9+11) in the last 31 games of the 2022-23 season.

Once a sixth round pick by the Blues in 2014, he's since become an established NHL regular, playing in 257 games between the Blues and Rangers.

Blais has already signed a deal with Vancouver's AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks, but will attend Vancouver's main camp with the hopes of remaining as an NHL regular.

He was a part of the 2019 St. Louis Blues team that won the Stanley Cup.

Before Blais became an NHLer, he was a distinguished QMJHLer, scoring 178 points (71+107) across 149 games with the Victoriaville Tigres and the Charlottetown Islanders.

He would look to add checking depth to a strong Canucks roster.
