William Whitelaw finds a new home after spending one season with Wisconsin
Former Youngstown Phantom and Clark Cup champion William Whitelaw has found a new NCAA home for next year.
After entering the transfer portal, the Rosemount, Minnesota, native has signed with the University of Michigan for the 2024-25 season.
Whitelaw originally committed to the University of Wisconsin. As a freshman, he scored ten goals and 17 points in 37 games played.
Whitelaw primarily played in a bottom-six forward role for the Badgers but also saw time in elevated roles throughout the season.
Prior to his one and only season at Wisconsin, Whitelaw helped the Youngstown Phantoms win the franchise's first-ever Clark Cup championship during the 2022-23 season.
The young forward scored 36 goals and 25 assists for 61 points in 62 games. He was also a huge contributor for the Phantoms in the postseason, tallying five goals and nine points in nine games.
Following the year, the Columbus Blue Jackets selected Whitelaw in the third round, 66th overall, of the 2023 NHL Draft.
He will now head to Ann Arbor for his sophomore campaign, a program that has helped a number of Blue Jackets' draft picks achieve their full potential, including Adam Fantilli and Gavin Brindley, in recent years.
