
On Monday, the USHL handed out Player of the Week awards for Jan. 17-19 to Will Zellers, Etienne Lessard and Samuel Urban.
Zellers continued his hot pace, leading USHL skaters with eight points and a +6 rating in the Gamblers’ two victories in Cedar Rapids and Chicago.
Drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the third round (76th overall) of the 2024 NHL Draft, The 18-year-old Zellers recorded two goals and two assists in Green Bay’s 6-3 win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders last Friday.
On Saturday, the left-shot forward notched a hat trick and another helper in a 7-4 victory in Chicago over the Steel.
The hatty was the second in the last three games for Zellers, who now has three consecutive multi-point games and 12 over his 26 contests this season. Overall, he has tallied 41 points (26-15-41).
Scouts have lauded Zellers for his puck-handling skills and the ability to get inside, and the Avs prospect has certainly been lighting the lamp often recently.
The 5-foot-8, 164-pound right-shot blueliner tallied four points over the weekend and a +4 rating to lead all USHL defensemen.
The 20-year-old Lessard scored a primary and secondary helper in the Stars’ 6-2 home victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks Friday. The next night, he scored a goal plus a primary helper in the game’s first goal in Lincoln’s 7-3 win over Muskegon.
In 35 games this season, Lessard has 21 points (3-18-21) and a +9 rating.
In a 3-0 win at Fargo against the Force on Friday night, the 19-year-old Slovakia native made 30 saves. He followed that up with 29 stops on 31 shots in a 6-2 win over the Force to complete the two-game sweep.
For the week, Urban led USHL netminders with a 1.00 goals-against average, a .966 save percentage, one shutout and a 2-0-0 record. On the season, he is 13-8-1 with a 2.99 GAA and .900 SP in 23 games.
