The Tri-City Storm announced Monday they have promoted Dan Hoehne to the role of assistant coach.

Hoehne had been serving in his first season as the team’s goaltending coach and will be working alongside head coach Marco Trevino and assistant coach Matt Barry.

“I’m thrilled for this awesome opportunity to branch out from beyond working solely with our goaltenders and look forward to helping Coach Trevino and Coach Barry in any way I can,” Hoehne said in a statement. “I want to thank the entire Storm organization for giving me this opportunity to take on an expanded role with increased duties.”

Originally from Duluth, Minn. and a Wisconsin native, Hoehne recorded a school-record 60 victories as a goaltender for Duluth East after becoming the starter during his sophomore year. In 2000, he made the Minnesota All-State Tournament Team and was voted Northland Goaltender of the Year.

Hoehne has ties to the USHL as a player. He made his major junior debut with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders during the 2000-01 season and finished his junior career with the Borderland Thunder of the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL). He won an SIJHL title in 2003 and was named Goaltender of the Year that season.

Prior to joining the Storm this season, Hoehne served as goaltending coach with the Chippewa Steel of the NAHL starting in 2022. He also worked as an assistant for Chanhassen High School in Minnesota from 2016-21.

Hoehne currently resides in Webster, Wisconsin with his girlfriend Tara.

“We have been very happy with Dan’s contributions as goaltending coach this season,” Tri-City Storm general manager Jason Koehler said. “He is an effective communicator and brings plentiful experience developing young players. Our organization is excited to grow Dan’s role. This will make our team and coaching staff stronger.”

Tri-City will next be in action Friday on the road to take on USA Hockey NTDP in a two-game series on the road.
