Canucks Blanked At Home, Get Shutout By The Kraken 5-0

The Vancouver Canucks' playoff hopes took a significant hit on Wednesday as they fell 5-0 to the Seattle Kraken. This is the third time Vancouver has been shut out at home and the first since January 3. In net, Thatcher Demko stopped 14 of the 18 shots he faced, while Joey Daccord stopped all 24 shots for the shutout.

With the season esentially on the line, the Canucks failed to deliver, and in the process, dropped their third straight game. While Vancouver had plenty of time in the offensive zone, they struggled to get pucks on net as only 24 of their 77 shot attempts made it on target. The Kraken were also able to burn the Canucks multiple times on the rush, as three of Seattle's four goals on Demko started from a breakout pass.

The power play was also a disappointing aspect of this game. Vancouver went 0/3 with the man advantage and only generated four shots on goal. Ultimately, it was a missed opportunity, as scoring on the power play could have created some momentum for the team. 

"Just plays there, said Rick Tocchet post-game. "There's a low play wide open, we pass to the flanker, and he shoots it, and it gets a block. There's just certain things you just gotta, but these are reps. So you got to stay with it. And, you know, hopefully it pans out. But I just saw nervous, lots of nervous guys on the power play."

This game also produced an injury, as Tyler Myers did not play the final 11 minutes of the third period. Myers had played 16:38 up to that point and finished the night with two shots and three hits. Post-game, Tocchet said Myers was being evaluated but would not give specifics on what the injury was. 

After a performance like this, it is hard to image that the Canucks still have a shot at the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. While the players still believe, they would essentially need to go 7-0 and hope that teams like the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild go on massive losing streaks. With five home games remaining, the hope is that Vancouver can at least put on some better performances for the fans as they conclude the 2024-25 regular season.
