A look at which WHLers stepped up on day 1 of the 2024 World Juniors.

Welcome to the WHL three stars of the day from the 2024 World Juniors. This daily article selects three WHLers who made a difference for their home country at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship. Here are the three stars from day one of the tournament.

3. Nate Danielson- Canada

Helping Canada to a 5-2 victory over Finland, Brandon Wheat Kings Nate Danielson finished the game with a goal and an assist. He also was tied for the team lead in shots with four despite playing just over 13 minutes. Finishing the game with a plus/minus of plus-three, he looks to have developed some strong chemistry with his linemates Owen Beck and Owen Allard.

2. Samuel Honzek- Slovakia

Samuel Honzek started his third World Juniors with a strong game against Czechia. The Vancouver Giants captain scored the game-winner in the second period while also adding an assist as Slovakia cruised to a 6-2 victory. On the ice for four of Slovakia's six goals, he could be in store for a massive tournament.

1. Denton Mateychuk- Canada

Denton Mateychuk was superb in Canada's win over Finland. Playing on Canada's first pair, he logged over 24 minutes and finished the game with an assist and one shot on the net. The Moose Jaw Warriors captain will be expected to play a big role for Team Canada in this tournament as they look to clinch Gold for the third straight year.
