Welcome to The Hockey News 2024-25 season preview series. From August 29 to September 20, THN's WHL duo will examine some of the biggest storylines facing each team this season. Today's edition is focused on the Swift Current Broncos, who are eager to avenge their second round playoff exit from the previous year.

    2023-24 Statistics:
    Regular Season Record: 40-22-4-2,
     86 Points (1st Central Division)
    Playoffs: Defeated Lethbridge 4-0
    Defeated By Moose Jaw 4-1
Key Departures: Mathew Ward (F), Levi Benson (F), Josh Filmon (F)
Key Additions: Adam Kral (D), Eric Johnston (D)

Unfortunately for Swift Current, their Central Division-winning season was cut short by the dominant Moose Jaw Warriors, but the future does still look bright.

The Broncos may have lost a pair of important forwards in Mathew Ward and Levi Benson, but their replacements look promising: One of them being Jack Clark, who wrapped up a point-per-game U17 season in 2023-24, as well as being a top playoff performer. In addition to Clark, a returning Clarke (Caswell) is hungry to maintain his pace into the upcoming season. Leading the Broncos in points last year, Caswell will be leaned on heavily by the coaching staff but by all accounts, is up to the challenge.

On the blue line, Swift Current added more than subtracted. Former Prince Albert Raiders captain Eric Johnston makes his way to the Broncos for his final WHL season, and Czech defender Adam Kral is another solid addition from the CHL Import Draft. Swift Current will have quite a young defensive corps this season as most of it is made up of 2006-2007 born skaters, but they are looking to prove their worth in the WHL.

Between the pipes, Reid Dyck will reassume the starter's crease. The lifelong Bronco put up a career-best .911 save percentage and a 2.70 goals against average in 2023-24, and looks to maintain those numbers en route to another deep playoff run.

Swift Current will likely be one of the favourites coming out of the Eastern Conference, and with the acquisitions they made, it would not be a shock to see them compete for a second consecutive Central Division title.
