The Calgary Hitmen are officially playoff-bound. After a 5-0 victory over the Regina Pats on Wednesday, Calgary became the fifth team in the WHL to secure a spot in the 2025 postseason. The Hitmen return to the WHL Playoffs after a one-year absence and will be looking to win a playoff series for the first time since 2019.
Calgary has built a powerhouse team full of future stars. Up front, they are led by drafted prospects Carson Wetsch and Tanner Howe, as well as Oliver Tulk, who has already recorded new career highs in assists and points. The Hitmen have also done a fantastic job in developing Ben Kindel, who is a projected top-20 pick in the 2025 NHL draft.
As for Calgary's blue line, they have four drafted prospects in Axel Hurtig, Sawyer Mynio, Kalem Parker and Carter Yakemchuk. The Hitmen also brought in goaltender Daniel Hauser this season, who sits tied for sixth all-time in wins with 115. Through 55 games, Calgary has allowed only 159 goals, which is the second-lowest in the WHL.
With 13 games left in the season, the Hitmen will have their eyes focused on finishing first in the Central Division. As of Wednesday night, Calgary sits three points behind the Medicine Hat Tigers for the division lead with two games in hand. The Hitmen and Tigers play one more game against each other on March 23, which is also the final day of the WHL regular season.
