Mat Barrett will step into the booth in Alberta's capital city.
June 27- The Edmonton Oil Kings announced that they have hired Mat Barrett as the new Manager of Hockey Broadcasting & Media for the upcoming season.
Barrett will be beginning his second stint in the WHL, previously serving as the play-by-play voice of the Swift Current Broncos for the 2023-24 season.
Prior to major junior hockey, the Edmonton native got his experience with the Melfort Mustangs and Nipawin Hawks over seven seasons.
Barett replaces broadcaster Andrew Peard, who stepped down after five seasons with the team to pursue a role with the NHL's Edmonton Oilers.
Edmonton's pre-season schedule begins September 7, when they host the Prince George Cougars in Edson, Alta.
Regular season hockey starts September 20, and the Oil Kings' home opener takes place on September 28 against the Calgary Hitmen.
