The Hurricanes acquired Dylan Sydor and Sean Tschigerl in two separate trades on Monday.
The Lethbridge Hurricanes got a jump on the trade deadline, acquiring Dylan Sydor from the Kamloops Blazers and Sean Tschigerl from the Calgary. Both forwards are overagers and are expected to play critical roles come playoff time. Lethbridge is currently the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference after going 18-16-3 through their first 37 games.
Tchigirl was acquired from the Hitmen for second and third-round draft picks in 2025. Listed at 6'1" and 191 pounds, he brings almost 250 games of the WHL experience and is closing in on 200 points for his career. Initially drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, he has 43 points in 38 games which would be tied for first among Lethbridge skaters.
As for Sydor, the Hurricanes sent Blake Swetlikoff, a second-round draft pick in 2025 and a third-round draft pick in 2024, to acquire his services. In 180 career games, he has accumulated 85 points and recorded a goal in four Memorial Cup games last season with the Blazers. With 30 points in 37 games, he is expected to play a key role in the team's middle six as they push for a playoff spot.
The 2024 WHL trade deadline is set for Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 2:00 PM PT. While there have already been some big moves, expect fireworks as teams try to bulk up for the playoffs. Keep your eyes peeled to THN's WHL page for all the latest trade news heading into the deadline.
