The Edmonton Oil Kings were busy making two blockbuster trades on Wednesday. First, they dealt Anaheim Ducks prospect Vojtech Port to Moose Jaw Warriors before acquiring Florida Panthers prospect Gracyn Sawchyn from the Seattle Thunderbirds. Both deals involved first-round picks as the Oil Kings enhanced their roster for the future.
The first trade Edmonton made was moving Port to the Warriors. In return, the Oil Kings received 2006-born import forward Andrej Tomasec, a 2025 first-round pick, a conditional 2025 second-round pick (via Vancouver) and a 2026 third-round pick from Moose Jaw. In the trade, Edmonton also sent 2004-born forward Rilen Kovacevic and a 2024 sixth-round pick (via Wenatchee) over to the Warriors.
Moments later, the Oil Kings announced their second trade of the day, acquiring 2005-born forward Gracyn Sawchyn, 2007-born forward Lukas Sawchyn and 2008-born defenceman Tracen Ashley from the Thunderbirds. In exchange, Edmonton sent 2004-born forward Nathan Pilling, a 2026 1st round pick (via Seattle), a 2024 2nd round pick (via Kamloops), a conditional 2027 2nd-round pick a 2025 3rd-round pick (via Moose Jaw), a conditional 2027 3rd round pick, a 2025 5th round pick and a 2024 7th-round pick.
The Oil Kings return to action on Dec 27 when they face off against the Prince George Cougars. This will be the first of seven straight on the road, including stops in every B.C. Division city. Sawchyn is expected to join the team ASAP and could make his debut as early as tonight.
