The CHL has released their top-10 rankings for Week 2, e with the Portland Winterhawks claiming the top spot. The Winterhawks ranked second behind the London Knights in Week 1, went 2-0 this week, outscoring their opponents 10-3 in that span. The week also featured a milestone as head coach Mike Johnston became the 11th coach in WHL history to record 500 wins after Portland defeated their U.S. Division rivals, the Everett Silvertips, 4-1 on Oct. 6.
Through their first five games of the season, the Winterhawks' offense has been virtually unstoppable, scoring at least four goals in each game. They have also held the lead after the first period in each game and have only been outshot once so far this season. Led by James Stefan, Gabe Klassen, and Jan Špunar, Portland looks to be the team to beat in the Western Conference early on.
Portland wasn't the only WHL team to make this week's list, as they were joined by the Moose Jaw Warriors (5), Saskatoon Blades (6), and Prince George Cougars (7). While Moose Jaw and Saskatoon were part of the rankings last week, this was Prince George's first inclusion of the season. All three teams have started off strong and, like the Winterhawks, are projected to be featured frequently in the top-10 as the season progresses.
