The Portland Winterhawks continued their early season dominance, which landed them the top spot in this week's CHL Top-10 Rankings. They won both their games in commanding fashion, outscoring the Kamloops Blazers and Tri-City Americans 11-1 while extending their league-best six-game win streak. Now 4-0 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, they have outscored opponents 21 to four while at home this season.
Leading the way for Portland this week was goaltender Jan Špunar, who recorded his first career WHL shutout. The Czechian-born goalie was also named WHL Goaltender of the Week after stopping 47 of the 48 shots he faced, improving his record to 5-0 on the season. Other standouts for the Winterhawks included James Stefan, who finished the week with five points and Gabe Klassen, who recorded three assists over the two games.
Portland wasn't the only WHL team to feature in the top-10 as they were joined by Saskatoon Blades, Moose Jaw Warriors and Prince George Cougars. The Blades find themselves in fourth place after going 3-0 this past week, which included back-to-back shutouts, while the Warriors are ranked fifth after starting the season 6-4. As for the Cougars, they come in eight as they continue to be the highest-scoring team in the WHL, with 55 goals through their first ten games.
