The Saskatoon Blades made yet another blockbuster deal, acquiring the rights to Washington Capitals prospect Alexander Suzdalev along with a 2025 sixth-round pick. Currently playing over in Sweden, Suzdalev is expected to join the Saskatoon Blades for the remainder of the campaign. Over the 2022-23 season, he posted 86 points in 66 games, along with ten points in seven playoff games for the Pats.
In return, Regina receives forward Zach Moore (’06), import defenceman Samuel Barcik (’05), defenceman Dayton Deschamps (2007), a 2025 fourth-round pick, a first-round pick in 2026, and a 2026 third-rounder. This is the second move of the day as Regina also traded defenceman Parker Berge ('06) to the Everett Silvertips for defenceman Ty Gibson ('03) and a second-round pick in 2025. Regina currently sits 9th in the Eastern Conference with a 13-8-3-2 record.
As for Saskatoon, the addition of Suzdalev means that they now have five NHL-drafted players on their roster. Currently sitting atop the Eastern Conference at 24-8-2-1, the Blades are loading up for a long playoff run as they look to capture their first WHL Championship in franchise history. Here is Saskatoon general manager and president Colin Priestner on the trade via the team's press release:
“We feel Alex is one of the most exciting junior hockey players in the world. His performance in the playoffs against us last year was incredible, and his excitement to return to the WHL and come to Saskatoon made this an easy decision for us.”
