A look at one player from each division that stood out during Week 18 of the 2024-25 WHL season.
Welcome to THN's "WHL Standouts From The Week" article. In this weekly column, we highlight one player from each division who impressed over the last week. Here is a look at the four standouts from week 18.
Hayden Paupanekis was a goal-scoring machine this past week. The Kelowna Rockets forward lit the lamp five times in three games while also adding an assist. Projected to go in the top 100 of this year's draft, fans should get to know Paupanekis's name as he is starting to become a force in the WHL.
To no one's surprise, Gavin McKenna had yet another monster week. Over his three games, he recorded eight points, which included back-to-back three-point efforts. Now with 78 points in 38 games, McKenna looks like one of the favourites to take home this year's Four Broncos Memorial Trophy.
Diego Buttazzoni had a very special week. After announcing his commitment to UMass Lowell, Butazzoni celebrated by recording four points and 18 shots on net in two games. On pace to smash all his previous career highs, Butazzoni has also been a key reason why the Portland Winterhawks are in contention for a top-four spot in the division.
Nolan Flamand has been Mr. Reliable for the Brandon Wheat Kings this season. Over the past week, he recorded six points in three games, including a four-point effort against the Kelowna Rockets. Having already set a new career high in points, Flamand is making the most of his final WHL season as he aims to qualify for the postseason on more time.
