Swift Current General Manager Chad Leslie announced on Tuesday that Seattle Kraken prospect and three-year WHL veteran Clarke Caswell will become the new captain for the 2024-25 WHL Season.
Caswell, returning from the Kraken preseason, replaces Owen Pickering as the "C" after two seasons with Pickering at the helm.
The Brandon, Man. native led the Broncos in scoring last season, collecting 26 goals and 51 assists in 68 games. He will be looked upon heavily to carry that load once again, with multiple Swift Current staples departing for the pros.
“Playing in Swift Current my whole career and seeing guys like Owen Pickering and all the leaders we had before, just the unbelievable job they did and I’m excited to lead this group of guys and make this season a success.” Caswell said in an interview.
Broncos head coach Taras McEwen believes that his longtime forward has taken a big step. “He’s definitely a quiet leader but someone who shows up to the rink and does everything the right way, just with his preparation and work ethic on the ice.”
The rest of Swift Current's leadership group is yet to be announced, but a big piece of business taken care of heading into the upcoming weekend's matchups against the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Prince Albert Raiders.
