Head back to 1990 when both Russ Farwell and Ken Hitchcock were ready to make the jump from the WHL to the NHL.

In this edition of The Hockey News, we look back on an article written by Stan Fischler about two up-and-coming "front office prodigies" ready to make the leap from the WHL to the NHL. First, we have Russ Farell, who was the general manager of the Seattle Thunderbirds at the time. According to Fischler, he was being eyed as a potential replacement for Bobby Clarke, the general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers. Then, there was the head coach of the Kamloops Blazers, Ken Hitchcock, who was in the midst of leading Kamloops to a Memorial Cup berth. After the tournament, he would follow Farell to Philidephia, becoming an assistant coach with the Flyers for the 1990-91 season.

Also included in this edition is a piece about the Brett brothers, who purchased the Spokane Chiefs prior to the 1990-91 season. Bobby, Geroge, John and Ken took over from Vic Fitzgerald, who had moved the franchise from Kamloops to Spokane in 1985. Purchased for a reported price of $650,000, Bobby Brett remains the club's majority owner to this day.
