The WHL is set to play a big role in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Leading up to the draft, we at The Hockey News will be profiling some of the players who are projected to hear their names called at the end of June. Today's prospect is Nathan Behm, who plays for the Kamloops Blazers.
Behm took a massive step forward in his development during the 2024-25 season. Listed at 6'2", 202 lbs, the right-winger set new career highs in goals (31), assists (35) and points (66). He also recorded 198 shots while leading the Blazers with five game-winning goals.
In the offensive zone is where Behm thrives. He has developed into a high-end playmaker and understands the importance of getting as many pucks to the net as possible. This season, Behm also showed that he can be an effective play driver, as he could change angles and pull defenders out of position in order to find open teammates.
As the season progressed, Behm was able to demonstrate that he can have an impact in the transition game. He was able to hit teammates with accurate passes who were already in the neutral zone, and showed a willingness to carry the puck into the offensive zone, rather than execute a dump-and-chase play. Behm was also able to use his size to his advantage, as defenders had a difficult time trying to take the puck away from him in the neutral zone.
The next step in Behm's development will be his work in the defensive zone. This includes winning more board battles and breaking up cross-ice passes. Behm also needs to add a bit more physicality to his game, which should help him become a more impactful player at both ends of the ice.
Behm is the type of forward that organizations are always looking to add to their prospect pool. He has good size, is a strong puck handler and has been able to add tools to his game since joining the WHL. Based on projections and mock drafts, Behm is expected to be a second or third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
