Welcome to this edition of the 2025 WHL Prospect Pools. Throughout the 2025 off-season, we will be taking a look at current or recently graduated WHLers who have either been drafted or signed by NHL clubs. Today's organization is the Calgary Flames, which has four WHLers in its prospect pool.

The Flames' prospect pool is jam-packed with current and former WHLers. Calgary already drafted Andrew Basha, Axel Hurtig and Hunter Laing before adding Cole Reschny during the 2025 NHL Draft. Jordan Switzer was also invited to this year's development camp, adding yet another WHLer to the mix.

Starting with Reschny, he was drafted 18th overall in this year's draft. Last season with the Victoria Royals, the 18-year-old center recorded 92 points in 62 games before lighting up the playoffs with 25 points in 11 games. Reschny's WHL career has now come to an end as he is headed to the University of North Dakota next season.

Next up is Basha, who is the only prospect that has signed his entry-level contract. While the 19-year-old did miss the majority of the season with an injury, he still recorded 29 points in 23 games and helped the Medicine Hat Tigers qualify for the Memorial Cup Final. At this point, Basha is likely to head to the AHL next season to begin his professional career.

As for Laing, he is projected to return to the Saskatoon Blades for the 2025-26 season. The 2024 sixth-round pick set a new career high this year, recording 48 points in 64 games. With 138 games of WHL experience, Laing will most likely be part of the Blades' leadership group next season.

Last up is Hurtig, who made his WHL debut with the Calgary Hitmen in 2024-25. During his rookie campaign, the 20-year-old defenceman recorded 16 points in 55 games while also representing Sweden at the 2025 World Juniors. Hurtig is projected to return to the WHL in 2025-26.
